Metro South TAFE fashion teams up with Miss World Australia

Wednesday, 26 November 2008

Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) has joined forces with the Miss World Australia competition to give young fashion designers an opportunity to show their creativity at a national and international stage.

Entrants in the Miss World Queensland finals will be wearing evening gowns and garments designed by MSIT fashion students at the State Final Crowning and Gala Dinner to be held on the Gold Coast in February 2009.

Portfolio Manager for Creative Industries at MSIT Liz Reynolds said she was delighted that MSIT's best and brightest designers were able to display their creations at such a high profile event.

"I'm ecstatic that our students are able to get an opportunity like this. Many Australian fashion designers have become runaway successes after having their designs worn in competitions like Miss World so obviously our designers were excited to become involved," said Ms Reynolds.

"MSIT prides itself in being Queensland's most successful provider of fashion training not just because of our brilliant fashion teachers and state of the art facilities but because we are able to form partnerships with the fashion industry and with competitions like Miss World so our students can get experience and exposure.

"Our students don't just design the garments then get them stitched by someone else- they are responsible for the final product which gives them great pride in their work and produces a graduate who understands all aspects of the fashion industry.

"I hope MSIT and Miss World Australia are able to continue this relationship long into the future," said Ms Reynolds.
