MSIT inspires those with visual appeal

Thursday, 11 June 2009

Those with creative flair and an eye for detail will now have the opportunity to study Queensland's only course in Visual Merchandising at Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT).

The Diploma of Visual Merchandising, which begins in July, will help graduates stand out in the job market having learnt how to successfully perform roles such as a retail store merchandiser, an exhibition/event display organiser or photographic stylist. The diploma also provides the skills for those looking for promotion to a visual merchandising supervisory or management role.

MSIT teacher Mark Reese, who has over 25 years experience in the visual merchandising industry including positions at Myer and David Jones, said he was excited to be teaching the only course of its kind in Queensland and that visual merchandising was an exciting and challenging career.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with students. In these tough economic times, how a business presents its products and services becomes even more important and there are some great opportunities for those with talent to really shine," said Mark.

"Part of the appeal of this course is learning the creative principles and disciplines of display techniques within an ever evolving industry. This leads to maximising sales potential and customer satisfaction by ensuring effective merchandise presentation and layout.

"Classes range from the history of design to design practice, working effectively as a visual merchandiser, presenting products, developing visual concepts and applying the design process to 2 and 3 dimensional works.

"This course is not only practical but inspirational, allowing students to learn different styles of display and production presentation," said Mark.
