An up and coming Brisbane band has joined forces with music industry business students from Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) in an exciting new project that helps both the students and the band.
The Travelling So-and-So's, an emerging 4-piece group known for their eclectic sound and high energy sets, have enlisted the help of MSIT Certificate III and IV Music Industry (Business) students to promote their debut EP and launch party.
The students have put together a promotional program to assist the band including creating marketing material, social media promotion, assistance with the bandâs gigs and business advice and support.
Andrea Smith, teacher of Music Industry (Business) at MSIT said this was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved and that this was an example of MSIT providing training to help students stand out in the job market.
"Not only do these students get a chance to work with a great band like the Travelling So-and-So's but it's also real life work experience that they can put on their CV," said Ms Smith.
"In these tough economic times the music industry, like other industries, has to focus on qualifications as well as the talent to support them."
"Getting a qualification at MSIT not only puts a piece of paper in your hands, it provides you with the experience and hands-on ability to work in the industry you want," said Ms Smith.
