Volunteer tutoring a great way to help others

Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) is offering a course in Volunteer Tutoring which provides a learning opportunity to assist others to develop their skills.
The six month course is free to those who are willing to volunteer to help students with their literacy, or students learning English as a second language.
The course presents a range of teaching methods which can be applied to tutoring adults in reading, writing, maths and conversational skills.
MSIT Institute Director Kaylene Harth said volunteering was a wonderful opportunity for people to make a difference in the community.
"Helping someone to positively interact with their community is an incredibly rewarding experience and a way to connect with someone from a different culture or different way of life.
"This course will provide students with a great sense of achievement as they proactively help adults and watch them gain confidence as learners.
"Even with our increasingly busy lifestyles Queenslanders are still looking for opportunities to help others. If you are looking to make a contribution to your community then I encourage you to come and train to become a volunteer tutor, "said Ms Harth.
