Aged Care at MSIT-a path to a recession-proof career
Monday, 29 June 2009
For those searching for a more secure employment future or looking for a challenging new career Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) is currently offering mid-year enrolment in its Aged Care program.
The Certificate III in Aged Care Work is a six month full time program and students gain a wide range of theoretical and practical skills to enable them to work in a variety of aged care settings, understand different cultures and effectively communicate with clients and their families.
Students complete a placement in an aged care facility as part of their certificate and those currently working in aged care may be able to complete this requirement within their current employment.
MSIT Institute Director Kaylene Harth said despite the economic downturn and rising unemployment, industry was crying out for qualified aged care workers.
"Aged care is definitely what you would call a recession-proof career. With an aging population and a current shortage of qualified aged care workers most of our students are offered jobs while on their placements," said Ms Harth.
"Students studying the Certificate III can also elect to do additional competencies in home and community care as well as in the disability field to gain additional qualifications and offer up a wider variety of career opportunities.
"Aged care is a challenging and extremely rewarding employment opportunity so if you are looking for a career change or hoping to find some job security then come and study with us at MSIT," said Ms Harth.
