Fashion Skill Sets make designing dreams a reality at MSIT

Would you love to be able to design your own creations or build upon your experience and knowledge in the fashion industry?
Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) makes this possible with the introduction of fashion skill sets being taught at MSIT's Mt Gravatt campus.
These comprehensive hands-on short courses are available for the beginner, right up to those working in the industry. The skill sets include training in sewing, patternmaking, millinery through to garment production, business skills and computer applications.
Liz Reynolds, MSIT Educational Manager for Fashion, said do-it-yourself fashion was back in vogue and with the economic downturn hitting the purse strings people were looking for less expensive ways to look fashionable.
"Being able to wear something you designed and made yourself is a great thrill and in most cases, is a lot cheaper than buying designer outfits.
"MSIT offers a wide range of skill sets in all aspects of fashion design and production. Students are trained on the latest technology used by the fashion industry.
"These skill sets run in the evening for approximately ten weeks, which is perfect for those working full time.
"So if you're looking to create a dazzling racewear outfit and fascinator, want to learn patternmaking or understand more about different fibres and fabrics, then MSIT has the course for you.
"If you're a fashion industry professional wanting to know how to source suppliers, develop a marketing strategy for your business or design and develop your own line of swimwear MSIT's experienced teachers can help you develop those skills.
"Completion of these skill sets can also be credited towards gaining a formal qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Technology," said Ms Reynolds.
