Sustainability - MSIT's vision for a cleaner, greener future
At MSIT, we believe that everyone has a responsibility to leave the planet in a better condition than when they found it. So with that in mind MSIT is working towards becoming a truly sustainable training organisation.

What does it mean to be a sustainable organisation?
Being a sustainable organisation means that through MSIT's programs, services and operations we seek to minimise our impact on the environment (reducing our carbon footprint) and have a positive impact on the economy and the community (increase our economic and social footprint).
What is MSIT doing as an organisation to become sustainable?
In 2008 MSIT began its commitment to sustainability with an organisation-wide audit to establish the institute's carbon footprint and explore ways to reduce the environmental impacts of delivering vocational training.
MSIT has initiated several recycling programs, paper, water and power conservation measures and staff awareness campaigns at its nine campuses.
Building sustainability competency in our students
By 2010 all MSIT Diploma programs will have subjects on environmental sustainability included in the course. These subjects teach students to apply sustainable practices in your workplace, community and everyday life.
MSIT also seeks to lead the way in vocational training by integrating all the principles of sustainability into our courses. For instance, with our Fashion programs, we teach sustainable fashion design and production. This includes teaching the benefits of using environmentally sustainable textiles (such as organic cotton) and humanitarian principles in production and supply (such as ensuring that vulnerable workers in the textile and clothing industry both in Australia and overseas are not exploited).
Supporting sustainability in business
MSIT is offering a number of programs that can help your business become a sustainable organisation.
The MSIT Green Cleaning Program (Certificate III in Asset Maintenance) is the only program in environmentally sustainable cleaning practices in Queensland. Endorsed by the Building Services Contractors Association of Australia (BSCAA) this course helps businesses develop environmental management plans and meet the obligations for the ISO14001 rating.
Through our award-winning Small Business Solutions program, MSIT can build the capacity of your small business to adopt environmentally sustainable processes and reporting and help your business adapt to the new carbon economy.
