However students must remain enrolled and in attendance at school until the end of program if they wish to receive this tuition free of charge.
Improve your OP with MSIT
Students can complete full Certificate II or III qualifications in as little as one day a week over a one or two year program. All programs contribute toward a student's Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and provide valuable alternative pathways to the workplace or higher education.
Choosing a TAFE in Schools program provides students with an alternative pathway to university study, and can get young people into their chosen careers faster.
Students completing MSIT PWS programs gain automatic entry to higher level MSIT Certificate/Diploma programs when they finish Year 12 and can then continue on to a direct articulated entry to University study.
This pathway reduces the reliance on traditional QTAC entry and allows students to gain an entry level qualification before commencing university study - allowing them to gain employment in their chosen industry sooner.
TAFE study is also recognised as an entry pathway by major universities with the following OP equivalency:
| Level of study | OP / Rank score available |
|---|---|
| Certificate III | OP 15 / 68 |
| Certificate IV | OP 13 / 74 |
| Diploma | OP 10 / 82 |
| Advanced Diploma | OP 6 / 91 |
Who is eligible to apply?
MSIT offers high school students in Years 10 (must be 14 years and 9 months), 11 and 12 the opportunity to apply for a place in the PWS program. Study should be identified in the student's SET Plan.
Students that are not Australian Permanent Residents or Citizens and who want to join the PWS program will, through their VET Coordinator, be required to provide passport entry visa status prior to commencement of study. The VET Coordinator is responsible for identifying and advising PWS of any student that may fall under this category. Our International unit will confirm if an international fee is applicable.
