Disability support
Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE acknowledges and promotes the value of people with a disability undertaking vocational education and training. The Institute acknowledges its social and legislative responsibilities to enable people with a disability to participate equitably in vocational education and training.
In doing so, it embraces the concept of reasonable accommodation to ensure equity for people with a disability.
The Institute has Disability Support Officers who:
- offer confidential and friendly assistance when discussing your situation and support needs
- coordinate services to meet individual learning and physical needs
- assist students to achieve their educational and career goals
- encourage students to be independent and take responsibility for their course of study
- liaise with relevant external agencies, organisations or government departments to gain assistance.

Who is eligible?
Any person with a disability, whether it is permanent or temporary, is eligible for this service.
Disabilities are broadly defined as arising from any sensory, physical, psychiatric, or neurological condition, including learning disabilities.
A disability may or may not be obvious to others and can include:
- arthritis
- hearing loss
- heart disease
- visual impairment
- acute anxiety
- asthma
- back pain
- broken limbs
- chronic illness.
Application process
Students are encouraged to arrange an interview with the Disability Officer prior to commencement of the course.
The purpose of the interview is to:
- identify support needs
- develop an individual learning plan
- identify a funding source with respect to support needs/course.
