Indigenous support
The Indigenous Student Support Officer provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students with a program of support and consultation on all matters including:
- academic issues including assignment tasks, with assistance being through tutoring and directions to the appropriate resources
- a range of personal issues from; shyness, transport, domestic violence, depression, alcohol and drug abuse
- cultural issues, shame, heritage and identity concerns and direction to community resources and events
- liaison with Aboriginal Tutoring Assistance Scheme (ATAS) to arrange educational support in the form of tutoring assistance
- assist on choice of courses by informing community and individuals about education and training opportunities available with the TAFE
- liaison with key stakeholders including; local, state and federal government agencies. These stakeholders may include: ABSTUDY, Department of Education and Training and Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS).
