Smart preferences
When you apply to QTAC you can list up to six preferences for programs. Ordering your preferences wisely can help you get into the course you really want.
First and second - ideal courses
The courses that you would ideally like to study, even if you think the entrance requirements might be higher than your expected OP.
Second and third - realistic courses
Your second and third preferences should be the courses that have a less competitive entrance score. They should provide you with a second career choice or provide a pathway to one of your ideal courses.
Fifth and sixth - 'foot-in-the-door' courses
These courses are the ones you are prepared to do if you miss out on all the others. They should be courses that in the past have been quite easy to get into and that can help you upgrade.
If you are applying for a combined diploma/degree program, you should also list the diploma program as a separate preference. It may be easier to get into and will still allow you to gain credit when you move to university.
